TABLE MOUNTAIN HIKE- ABERDARES
Overview
The Table Mountain Hike is a classic Aberdares day hike that combines steep forest trails, bamboo zones, and expansive moorlands, culminating at a distinctive flat summit. It is ideal for hikers looking for a physically engaging yet achievable high-altitude experience.
The Table Mountain Hike takes place on the eastern edge of the Aberdare Ranges near Njabini and is accessed via the Ndunyu Njeru / Mutubio route. The trail begins with a demanding ascent through dense indigenous forest, quickly testing stamina as elevation is gained over a short distance. This initial section is steep and continuous, making it one of the more physically rewarding day hikes in the Aberdares. As the trail climbs higher, the forest gives way to thick bamboo and eventually opens into vast moorlands dominated by heather and tussock grass. The change in vegetation marks a transition into true highland terrain, with cooler temperatures and increasingly open views. On clear days, hikers are treated to panoramic scenery across the Kinangop Plateau, with distant views of Lake Naivasha, Mount Longonot, and Mount Suswa.
